How to Use Time Blocking to Boost Your Productivity
Time blocking is a time management technique that involves dividing your day into blocks of time and assigning specific tasks or activities to each block. This helps you stay focused and avoid distractions, and can be a powerful way to boost your productivity.
I mentioned when I was talking about the Pomodoro technique that not always works. It depends on your task ( also depends on yourself of course). Some tasks are challenging to divide into 25 mins blocks.
What if instead, you block your time to some task instead to give a task some time?
We know who created the Pomodoro technique but I didn’t discover who invented the Time blocking one. I start using it after reading Cal Newport book “Deep work” but this method has been around for ages. One of the early adaptors was Benjamin Franklin by dividing his day into 6 blocks of time.
Time blocking is a time management technique that involves dividing your day into blocks of time and assigning specific tasks or activities to each block. This helps you stay focused and avoid distractions, and can be a powerful way to boost your productivity.
Here is a step-by-step guide to using time blocking to improve your productivity:
- Identify your most important tasks: Start by identifying the most important tasks that you need to complete. These should be tasks that have the greatest impact on your goals or objectives.
- Create a schedule: Divide your day into blocks of time and assign specific tasks or activities to each block. Be sure to include breaks and time for relaxation and self-care.
- Stick to your schedule: Try to stick to your schedule as closely as possible. Avoid scheduling too many tasks in a single day, and leave some flexibility in case unexpected things come up.
- Use a time-tracking tool: Use a time-tracking tool to help you stay on track and track your progress. This can be a simple spreadsheet or a more advanced tool like Toggl or Harvest.
- Adjust your schedule as needed: As you become more comfortable with time blocking, you may find that you need to adjust your schedule to better fit your needs. Don't be afraid to make changes as needed to find what works best for you.
When using time block, you can increase focus and productivity and get more done in less time. In the same way with the Pomodoro technique or any other time management method, don’t be too hard on yourself, giving yourself time to adapt to a new technique. With patience and trial, you will get it to the point of maximum productivity.
